“We want it to look like it’s been there forever”

This historic home in Rosemont was due for some landscape updates, but the owners wanted to maintain the mature plantings and preserve the antique feel of the property.

The texture and variation of full-color, natural cleft bluestone wound up being the perfect fit. An irregular format was perfect for the organic shape of the existing terrace.

Stepping stone paths using the same material guide you from the sunny terrace to the shade garden, lower lawn, and rear of the property.

Around the corner, the same full-color, natural cleft bluestone falls into a linear pattern for a more formal walkway across the back of the house to the drive.

The walkway ascends several steps to access the driveway and a shadier patio area.

A cobblestone border defines the bluestone landing at the driveway. Dolph Pond granite was used for the thin veneer on the steps, matching an existing wall around the garage and pairing nicely with the full-color bluestone.

We teamed up with our friends at Pollen for the planting portion of this project. Their team put together a design for this hardscape installation phase as well as a long-term management plan for the property. Tree and Stone relocated some major shrubs while the Pollen team brought in new perennials and ground covers.

All of the bluestone surfaces on this project feature permeable joints for a natural look that reduces stormwater runoff

A rain barrel catches heavy roof runoff that can be reused in the garden. The stepping stone path offers a natural swale for stormwater

It’s supposed to look like it’s been there forever - how’d we do?
